Whatever settings I try - I cannot enter important characters like
@ (AltGr + Q)
~ (AltGr + +)
| (AltGr + <)
or even: {[]}\

this is a problem within TTY or GTK applications. In KDE (4) apps the
AltGr key works as desired.

Maybe, these informations can help:
- when I type AltGr + Q twice, I get a list of known hosts (as if I type
  @ and 2xTAB)
- same problem is there when I use the (clickable) virtual keyboard of
  KDE.
- "less -" reports that instead of plain "@", an ESC is sent before.

This means the ESC is triggered additionally before the desired @
character is sent. Did I mention that I own a straight 105-keyboard,
just QWERTZ.
