For Debian CD images you can use md5sum for checking the integrity/authenticity 
of the CDs.
For example, on the files in 
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/i386/iso-cd/ 
making:

$ md5sum debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso 
must report the same as in the content of the MD5SUMS.small file in the same 
directory.
