Damn. So I guess I'll have to fall back to the network preseed or rebuild the initrd (the whole point was to embed the preseed file on the usb drive but keep a generic initrd.gz so I could chose the kind of install (standard, preseed1/2/..) depending on the boot options. hd-media won't work since, afair, it can't use a network mirror but will only rely on local mirror.
