This is a far more invasive change than just adding the udeb. Please be prepared to pick up the pieces in case regression in stable functionality are introduced with such a change. Doing this when moving from wpa_supplicant 0.7.x -> 0.8.x (not yet released) would be more appropriate in my opinion.
