Today I tried again to install Debian GNU/Linux Wheezy on a HP 635. I used the
netinst image on a DVD (of March 19, 2012). The graphical installation doesn't
work this time. After the boot messages the screen gets blank and stays this
way.

The normal installation worked but the reported error remains. The black and
white stripes only appear for a few seconds then there comes the colored snow
on the whole screen whith the mouse cursor visible as a ligther tile.

This time I tried to switch to a virtual console. Blindly I logged in as root
and typed "init 0" -- which worked.

I also tried to add "radeon.modeset=0" to the GRUB boot options. It didn't
make a difference.
