Well, it sounds like it was a bug to me. ;-) Now I'm curious: are you still using this hardware? If so, what kernel do you use these days, and how does it act? If the problem is still present in current squeeze kernels, it would be useful to find a fix and backport it. If the problem is still present in 3.5 from experimental, we should take this upstream.
