Package: debian-installer
Severity: wishlist

Dear Debian Installer Team,

First of all, thank you for the incredible work you do in maintaining and
evolving one of the most stable and community-driven Linux distributions
out there.

I would like to propose an enhancement to the Debian Installer regarding
the use of the Btrfs file system.

Currently, while Btrfs is available as a filesystem option, the installer
does not provide the ability to automatically create a subvolume structure
during installation. This makes it difficult for users—especially beginners
or those transitioning from distributions like Fedora or openSUSE—to take
full advantage of Btrfs features such as snapshots, rollback, and data
isolation.

My suggestion is to introduce an **optional guided Btrfs setup**, which
would:
- Automatically create a set of standard subvolumes (`@`, `@home`, `@var`,
`@snapshots`, etc.).
- Optionally configure snapshot tools like Timeshift or Snapper.
- Present a simplified UI option in the installer for users who want Btrfs
with minimal manual intervention.

This would significantly improve usability and make Debian more
approachable for modern workflows that rely on Btrfs-based system
management.

If this proposal aligns with Debian's roadmap or technical goals, I would
be happy to help draft a more technical specification or collaborate with
the community to test and refine the idea.

With appreciation and respect,
Saleh Alhaddad (aka HD-96) AnonsV69
