I have a disk with about 20 partitions and about 10 varieties of Linux

I attempted to install from the debian-testing netinst ISO (forky) on
one of the partitions.
Installation proceeded normally until the installer tried to install
grub; this failed and so left my system unbootable.
Did the installer boot in EFI or legacy mode ?
If legacy, which location did you select for GRUB ?
Did you check the detailed error messages in the installer logs (tty4 or
/var/log/syslog) ?
