Subject: Debian Woody installation fails on systems without serial devices

I've tried to install Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 (Woody) on an Highscreen Celeron
1200 Laptop, today. This thingy comes without serial devices. While booting
the rescue disk, the installation stopped immediately while trying to setup
the serial devices and hung up.
I downloaded and compiled a 2.2.20 kernel for myself without serial support,
installed it on a new "rescue disk" and installed successfully a new Debian
on the laptop.
Would it be possible to fix this in some way?
mfg, Erik
