I've gotten help from Chris Halls about what I should type, but his instructions didn't work. I tried plausible modifications of his instructions, also didn't work. I went back and tried United States, ftp.us.debian.org and it started downloading. This proves to me that at least some of my setup is ok. But then I tried 'enter information manually' again and, this time, entered http://ftp.us.debian.org/ I got the same error message from anna that I had been getting in all my attempts to access my apt-proxy: wget: http: Unknown host Of course, I really don't want to access ftp.us.debian.org directly. I just tried it to diagnose where the problem resides. It is easy for me to reproduce the effect, so I can post answers to detailed questions. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux big 2.4.18-686 #1 Sun Apr 14 11:32:47 EST 2002 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C --------------------------------------- Received: (at 215620-close) by bugs.debian.org; 22 Mar 2004 20:41:31 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Mar 22 12:41:31 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from newraff.debian.org [208.185.25.31] (mail) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1B5WEl-0003eG-00; Mon, 22 Mar 2004 12:41:31 -0800 Received: from katie by newraff.debian.org with local (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1B5W5t-0003bU-00; Mon, 22 Mar 2004 15:32:21 -0500 From: Joey Hess <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.45 $ Subject: Bug#215620: fixed in choose-mirror 0.039 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Archive Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Mon, 22 Mar 2004 15:32:21 -0500 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_12 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-5.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_12 X-Spam-Level: Source: choose-mirror Source-Version: 0.039 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of choose-mirror, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: choose-mirror_0.039.dsc to pool/main/c/choose-mirror/choose-mirror_0.039.dsc choose-mirror_0.039.tar.gz to pool/main/c/choose-mirror/choose-mirror_0.039.tar.gz choose-mirror_0.039_i386.udeb to pool/main/c/choose-mirror/choose-mirror_0.039_i386.udeb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
