Ok, cool, can you please test the floppy image i built at : http://people.debian.org/~luther/boot.img and tell me if it works ? I tested it here on a beige G3 pmac, but it rejected the floppy, and since you had bad experience with old dusty floppy drives, and bad floppies, you would be the perfect person to try it on. This is a 2.6.5 kernel though, so the root floppy will probably complain about not finding anything, but i want to know if my miboot building was ok or not.
