Because the ISO code for United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland is GB: http://www.iso.ch/iso/en/prods-services/iso3166ma/10faq/frequently-asked-questions.html#QS04 Of course, if you even don't end up with British defaults (such as Europe/London timezone, use of mirrors in UK, strange money and measurement units, cockney accent, love soccer, don't eat frogs, lose 6 Nations tournament), this is a bug.
