Ah, ok, i did miss this misinterpretation.

There still is a problem for cross installs on machines that are
different from the one the disk is supposed to be for, and of the user
adding stuff.

BTW, about the via82cxxx issue, i suppose mkinitrd should have added it
to the /etc/mkinitrd/modules list, or something such, right ? Could it
be possible that it didn't get added, because the kernel i am running on
does have via82cxxx builtin and not modular ?
