As a result, loading the floppy module fails in hardware detection. I got the same error message about this three times. It should accept the non-existence of the floppy drive and give up. The evil autopartitioner still runs, threatening to destroy all my data, even though I've defined a partition table. Lilo pops up an error message "can't find /proc/partitions, disk scan bypassed" but works anyway. The CD-auto-eject at the end of the install is a nice touch. After rebooting, things are less well. The kernel complains repeatedly about "can't find block-major-114". The installation asks me for apt mirror information again - I've already entered this in the installer. After a trip through tasksel, it tries to install a kernel. This results in an error message which may be summarised as, "I'm about to do something unnecessary which will break your system. Do you want to continue?" Overall impression: hardware detection is good, installation is easy to carry out and follow provided you dodge the autopartkit bullet, and it's worked on a number of other machines I've tried it on. It just needs polishing a little, and the after-reboot side needs better testing. --------------------------------------- Received: (at 220268-done) by bugs.debian.org; 11 Jun 2004 19:50:38 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Jun 11 12:50:38 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from kitenet.net [64.62.161.42] (postfix) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BYs2v-0007Xp-00; Fri, 11 Jun 2004 12:50:37 -0700 Received: from dragon.kitenet.net (216-98-91-136.access.naxs.com [216.98.91.136]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "Joey Hess", Issuer "Joey Hess" (verified OK)) by kitenet.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id BA4D0186A8 for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Fri, 11 Jun 2004 19:50:36 +0000 (GMT) Received: by dragon.kitenet.net (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 46BA16EC36; Fri, 11 Jun 2004 15:50:29 -0400 (EDT) Date: Fri, 11 Jun 2004 15:50:29 -0400 From: Joey Hess <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: closing old installation report Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="k+w/mQv8wyuph6w0" Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6+20040523i Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-3.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00 autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: --k+w/mQv8wyuph6w0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable All the issues mentioned in this installation report are known to be fixed, except the mirror setup, which has an existing bug in the BTS, and the block-major-114 thing.
