FWIW, it isn't just on Dell laptops -- my Dad's HP/Compaq laptop (Presario 2100) also needed some PCMCIA tweaking to avoid it crashing... I'm not sure precisely what needed to be changed any more but can find out if necessary. Cheers, Cameron.
