Thanks for the added info. I finally got my installation working after lots of umount/mount of CD-ROMS and restarting disk scanning steps. I am sorry I don't remember the exact sequence that got it to work. I wasn't really sure how to apply that patch, especially with a partially installed system, so I didn't. I think it is the DMA issue as well. It occurred twice. First, as I outlined above, almost at the beginning of the install. When I finally bungled past that and was able to install the base system, it happened again when in the "installing packages" step. Repeatedly inserting the CD #1, it wouldn't recognize it and kept asking to change disks. More umount/mount and process restarts, and it finally worked. BTW, whenever I insert a CD now after booting, I have to remount it a second time to get it to work. Subsequent CDs are no problem.
