Package: debian-installer Severity: normal Tags: d-i Experience shows that we need a udeb that uses discover/whatever to find disk drives, then checks to make sure a disk was found, and if not, lets the user choose a module from a list of disk drivers, as in ethdetect.
Since we don't have this, currently when the installer fails to find a disk, the user is stuck in partman, unless they know how to modprobe modules in the shell. Dealing with NFS mounting should be taken into account when designing this (assuming the rest of the installer will eventually support NFS root). This is, unfortunatly, a post-sarge issue. -- see shy jo
