Marco said that he will merge my changes as soon as I have merged them
with the latest released version. I did that 5 days ago (#395220) one
day after 2.4.4rel-3 was released by Marco.

The patch also fixes the gratuitous change reported in #395197 and the
typos-which-had-some-nasty-effects-on-the-code issues reported in #395187.

Hmm, I was thinking the things go a little bit the other way around -
make sure the thing works (without visible defects - like the ones
reported until now), then document it in the manual.
