Hello Michael,
Let's try to figure out the root reason why it doesn't show the
partition table to you.
Could you please boot a live-cd or something and get your partition
table with:
#: fdisk -l <your disc>
My guess is that you're using a dual booting system with Windows and
it has a overlaping partition table but to check if it's the case you
can use the same live-cd and run:
#: parted <your disc> print
