I was informed that there is a project called "smolt" that tries to get a better understanding what hardware is run with Linux. I think that this goes together well with e.g. popcon, and that we can only profit from understanding what hardware is used in the wild (eases our decisions about e.g. dropping support for specific hardware, or investigating certain problems).
