Currently, the desktop task includes "hpijs-ppds", a 1.7 MB package which is 15.5 MB unpacked. However, hpijs now uses cupsddk to generate PPD files by itself (AIUI). As a result, it is possible to get PPDs for the hpijs-supported printers without installing hpijs-ppds. This works for me, at least. In addition, if hpijs-ppds is installed, you get double entries for each printer when selecting printer model in CUPS, which is a bit confusing.
