Steve Langasek believes that logind can be separated from systemd (using the code base in systemd v204) but even in that version, logind does rely on cgroups heavily and so it is not portable to kfreebsd. So the console kit path seems like the only option so far (unless someone ports logind to use some other freebsd technology).
