Package: xmms
Version: 1.2.10-2
Severity: normal
I normally run the current testing versions of everything, so the
version before 1.2.10-2 seems to be unaffected by this flaw. Ca. 12
hours after upgrading, my home partition run full, even deleting old
files did not solve this, because ~/.xsession-errors grew quickly. After a
failed attempt to delete it (it is held open by every X client...) I
still found a way to look into it, someone was quickly writing
..
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:490:(snd_pcm_hw_delay) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_DELAY failed: File
descriptor in bad state
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:490:(snd_pcm_hw_delay) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_DELAY failed: File
descriptor in bad state
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:490:(snd_pcm_hw_delay) SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_DELAY failed: File
descriptor in bad state
..
into it. When I found this out, it was 135MB in size, but grew to 145MB
during my efforts. The growth rate seems to be at least 10MB/hour, which
is a real problem for long login sessions. Many other programs save
their state in dot-files and may destroy their settings, if the disk
runs full.
This messages appeared, when I played a file (a 44100Hz stereo .ogg in this
case, but I don't think it matters) and pressed the pause button, in
stop or play mode nothing like this happened. Piping the stdout/err of xmms
into /dev/null works around the issue.
My kernel is a self compiled 2.6.9 from the debian sources,
module snd_ens1371 loaded.
Audio device setting in ALSA 1.2.10 output plugin is hw:0,1 in
mmap-mode. Buffer time 500ms, period time 50ms.

Hello,
libasound2 1.0.8-1 fixes the problem wherein ~/.xsession-errors would fill
with error messages when XMMS was paused. As that package is now entering
the archive, I'm closing the related XMMS bug reports.
Cheers,
Christopher Martin
