When I try and use --force-badname with groupadd, abnormal group names are
still rejected as invalid.
Eg (1):
mentor:/home# adduser --group --force-badname nameservercontroller
Adding group nameservercontroller (102)...
groupadd: nameservercontroller is a not a valid group name
adduser: `groupadd -g 102 nameservercontroller' returned error code
3. Aborting.
Cleaning up.
Depending on your reasons for wanting a bad group name, this can be worked
around by creating the group as --system, so that it's given nogroup as a
group.

OK, fine. I was completely missing that point. My remarks are thus
irrelevant, of course.
So, now, my problem is that I absolutely don't see where is the bug
indeed:
adduser --group --force-badname nameservercontroller
Adding group `nameservercontroller' (1006)...
Fait.
In other words, groupadd is OK with the mentioned group name.
This was probably corrected during the upstream switch from
20000902 to 4.0.3 which occurred on Sep 18 2002.
Hence closing the bug report.
