I think it should be sufficient that the client code has
#include <mpi.h>
Without having to specify the directory under which mpi.h resides.
Also seems to be missing is the mpi++.h file. hello++.cc (in examples/pi)
would not compile in this situation!

These bugs should all have been fixed in the December 22 upload of mpich
version 1.2.5.3-2, which was just accepted into the archive.
If you do not feel a certain bug has been fixed, feel free to reopen it.
