Package: nfs-common
Version: 1:1.0.10-4
I'm running Etch on an AMD64 system which connects via NFS to a server
running Sarge (i686). I can copy files from the server and the copy
chugs along at about 10 - 11 MB/Sec before completing. However, when I
copy files to the server, the speed goes up and down, sometimes as high
as 45MB/Sec before stalling. Usually it restarts and again goes to a
high value before stalling again. On other copies, it might simply go up
and down between 15 & 5 MB/Sec with few stalls.
Unfortunately, it sometimes doesn't restart after a stall. In fact, the
machine will start acting up. The problem seems to be network has locked
up. Anything needing the network locks up too.
I'm not having this problem copying files to a CIFS share on an XP
machine. And I didn't have it when I was running a 32bit system on the
same hardware. However, the problem persists whether I use Konqueror,
cp, mv or a program to copy files (such as a video editor to copy a
video file to the server).
I frequently copy batches of files running from hundreds of megabytes up
to a couple of gigabytes. The problem might not show up in small file
copying. However, I do get the lockup every gigabyte or two.
Once the lockup occurs, I can't even reboot my computer. When I initiate
the reboot in KDE, I get as far as the first "red" message after X shuts
down, then the computer hangs. All I can do at that point is hit the
reset button.
I can't find anything in my logs showing a problem - just the reboots. :(

Since there was no answer within a week, and it's impossible to find out
where to reassign this, I'm taking the liberty to close this bug. Feel free
to reopen against the correct kernel package when you get the time. :-)
