hddtemp is not reporting temperature in syslog.
I am proposing adding SYSLOG="-S x" to /etc/defaults/hddtemp and
/etc/init.d/hddtemp
Additionaly there is a bug in man page for hddtemp:
-s, --syslog=s
Switch do daemon mode and log temperatures to syslog every s
seconds.
Short -s is for separator and for syslog correct shortcut is a "-S".
