Please also see the followup discussion in the comments to
http://bmaurer.blogspot.com/2006/03/libaudiofile-patch.html which
matches my own findings. Toolchain bugs have caused the excessively
large dirty RSS, it seems, but I've checked that current Debian builds
don't suffer from this problem. The patch itself only saves at most a
single page, depending on the compiler. It's hardly worth the trouble,
in my opinion.
