Package: mozilla-browser
Version: 2:1.7-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

when I look at Web pages containing SVG graphics and if the graphics
contain text, text is not displayed. For example, see:

http://www.croczilla.com/~alex/fosdem2003/w3c-conformance-suite/structure-basicG-BE-03-ps.html

Mozilla warns me that I should read this page:

  http://www.mozilla.org/projects/fonts/unix/enabling_truetype.html

and enable TrueType fonts. In this page only items 4 and 6 are
relevant to Debian. So I did what is suggested in those item: I
edited /etc/mozilla/prefs.js and here is what I have now:

// I don't recommend enabling ft2 support. use mozilla-xft instead.
pref("font.FreeType2.enable", true);
[...]
pref("font.directory.truetype.1",
"/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType");
pref("font.directory.truetype.2", "/usr/share/fonts/truetype");
pref("font.directory.truetype.3", "/usr/share/fonts/truetype/openoffice");

Now text is displayed correctly in SVG graphics. Furthermore,
contrary to what the comment in this file says, enabling ft2 does not
prevent xft/render to display nice anti-aliased fonts in the browser
(both UI and Web pages).

So:

 - Could you please update this comment to remove the reference to the
mozilla-xft package that does not exist any longer ?

 - Is the rest of this comment about xf2 always true ? If not please
remove it.

 - Would it be a good idea to enable ft2 and set font directories in
the default config file ?
