Package: cvsup
Version: 16.1e-3
Severity: important

If files in my local CVS checkout have hardlinks, cvsup will try to perform
SetAttrs on them every time it runs. Since the hardlink count cannot be
modified by anything short from copying and unlinking the original, such
an operation is pointless.

In my case, this CVS tree is a checkout of SGI's XFS enabled 2.4 kernel
repository. I create a hardlink tree to it with cp -al so I can do patching
without disturbing the original checkout. Subsequent cvsup runs insist on
invoking SetAttrs on every hardlinked file. Given the size of the kernel
source tree, this imposes an unnecessary load on the server and makes the
run take much longer than it should.

My sup-file:

*default host=ftp.thebarn.com
*default prefix=/tmp/xfs
*default base=/var
*default release=cvs use-rel-suffix compress delete
linux-xfs tag=.

Kind regards,

cvsup was removed in September 2003 because it was uninstallable since
pm3 was removed.
