Package: pppoeconf
Version: 0.9.10.6
These network adapters are installed on my computer:
- Realtek 8139 based low-cost card
- A card that is detected as an "Allied Telesyn" card but has got a chip
labeled "RTL8139C" on it.
- Two onboard network adapters (ASUS A7N8X Deluxe nForce 2 mainboard)
identified as a 3Com and a nVidia nForce adapter.
During the installation of
Debian woody i386 3.0 CD 1 NONUS
I switched to the second console by pressing ALT+F2. Logged in as root I
apt-got pppoe and pppoeconf. I did this two times.
The first time, all four network adapters were detected correctly. At ~90% (or
maybe 100%) scan progress of eth1, I got a kernel panic ("Aiee, someone's
tried to kill the idle process"...) and the system freezed.
The second time, I'd removed / disabled all network adapters except the
Realtek 8139 based one. Anyway, pppoeconf detected two network adapters (eth0
and eth1). And then, pppoeconf produced the same kernel panic at the end of
the scanning process of eth1!
I'm sorry I cannot deliver you more information but everytime I want to
reproduce the problem I have to install Debian first.

Hi,
as the submitter told me by private mail the exact circumstances are no
longer available (and I expect it to be a kernel bug anyways), so I'm
closing this bug now.
Cheers,
Andi
