Package: po-debconf
Version: 0.8.22
Severity: minor

I was recently attempting to check a dutch translation I made.=20
   podebconf-display-po <po-file>=20
didn't work

two causes:
=2D my environment locale wasn't set to Dutch, easily solved by calling
 LANG=3Dnl_BE podebconf-display-po <po-file>
=2D my po-file wasn't named nl.po but shadow_nl.po, and apperently=20
podebconf-display-po needs the po-file to be called <lang-code>.po in order=
=20
to find the translated strings.

If possible technically you probably should always use the translated=20
strings from the po-file regardless of locale settings (I can't think of=20
any use-case where you wouldn't want this.)=20
Of course without setting LANG correctly you'll still get the environment=20
locale versions of the debconf-strings 'yes', 'no', ... (while not perfect,=
=20
I personally don't consider that a real problem)

If the above isn't possible it should at least be noted in the man-page (an=
d=20
README-trans) that:
=2D the po-file /must/ be named <lang-code>.po=20
=2D LANG /must/ be set correctly
=2D-

Description:
 po-debconf - manage translated Debconf templates files with gettext
Closes: 301199 302592
Changes:
 po-debconf (0.8.23) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * podebconf-report-po: Fix PO header parsing when fields are splitted
     onto several lines.  Closes: #302592
     Thanks to Christian Perrier for reporting this bug.
   * podebconf-report-po: Add an X-Mail-Originator field containing the
     version number of this script; this may help debugging when problems
     arise.
   * podebconf-display-po: This script displays translated strings only if
     user's environment is localized. This restriction is added into the
     documentation.
   * podebconf-display-po: PO file has previously to be named <lang_code>.po;
     this restriction is removed, PO files can have any name. Closes: #301199
     Thanks to Bart Carnelis for these suggestions.
