It's the same problem of the bug #135744 ! When calling ifconfig with -a
flag, this error:

is reported.

When running with kernel 2.6.8-1 it works.

Hi, since the user says it's unreproducible now, and there wasn't any
other report on this (nor I've ever saw it and I used to have many
machines with 2.4 kernels and 3com cards), I'm closing this old bug.
