Package: grub
Version: 0.95+cvs20040624-10
Severity: wishlist
Presently /sbin/update-grub has hardcoded searching handling for vmlinuz files
under the /boot directory. In case of name change or
having /boot/memtest86.bin these entries wont be added to the menu list. I
suggest to test all the files with something like "/usr/bin/file" to find out
which of them are "x86 boot sector" and add them to the list.

Sorry, but what you request is not possible. Grub can't tell what an image
really is by just using file(1). For example, a memtest86+ image can be boot
right away, but a Linux image needs specific parameters, including initrd.
