(Might even be grave, I have too little experience with pkg-config to tell)
AC_RUN_LOG() causes pkg-config to run in a subshell, so the assignment to
the pkg_cv_* variable doesn't have any effect in the script itself and the
variable ends up empty.
Just removing AC_RUN_LOG() from /usr/share/aclocal/pkg.m4 and regenerating
aclocal.m4 and configure makes things work again.
