I use sarge.
A user (a friend) just used syslog to send messages "From kernel" to
all terminals, and also add these messages to "/var/log/" etc. and
claims he can fake messages to look like they came from any process he
wants.
When i look at /var/log/syslog there's entries in there that there's
no way to finds out that they were written by him.
I think atleast the name of the 'owner' of the process adding to
syslog should get recorded... so that i would know that it is him doing it..
i guess i should do man syslog.conf to try to configure logger to do
that, but shouldn't that be the default?
[yeah, i am a newbie sdysad :-)]

It's a feature and common Unix design.
