Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.9-2sarge2
Severity: normal

Hi,

see subject: please set pipe_decode temporarily in the urlview macro.
Currently urlview chokes upon long urls in quoted-printable messages
which contain a soft line break (cc'ing #127090 "urlview: Long urls are
cut off..." for that reason).

This has been reported before, see the urlview bugs #128183 [1], #134013
[2], and #127090 [3] may also be the same issue. I don't feel this is a
problem of the urlview package, but mutt should set pipe_decode
intelligently.

Again, there has been the mutt bug #151460 "mutt: Muttrc should include
set pipe_decode=yes"[4]. But obviously setting pipe_decode globally was
no clean solution, the already applied change was reverted, and #151460
closed because there was "no consensus that this is a mutt bug". So,
users of mutt+urlview where still left with a buggy default
configuration.

Now, AFAIK mutt has gained support of self-defined variables with
version 1.5.12. So I suggest to replace the current urlview macros with
something like:

,----[ Muttrc ]
| macro index \cb "\
| : set my_tmp_pipe_decode=\$pipe_decode\n\
| : set pipe_decode\n\
| |urlview\n\
| : set pipe_decode=\$my_tmp_pipe_decode\n\
| : unset my_tmp_pipe_decode\n" \
| 'call urlview to extract URLs out of a message'
`----

...and similar for the pager. For clarity, I've used the standard key
bindings instead of functions. (The current macro should also be fixed
to use functions, btw.)

Note that the snippet above is untested since I'm still running Sarge's
mutt 1.5.9, I've just derived it from the mutt manual, section 3.26.2.2.
