Just recently, when loading pages in a new tab, mozilla has started
freezing for about 10 seconds. I attached strace to it and opened
some new tabs, and http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~jdamery/moz.strace
is the result. As you can see, there is an 11 second point (starting
with:
poll([{fd=6, events=POLLIN}, {fd=15, events=POLLIN}, {fd=4, events=POLLIN, reven
ts=POLLIN}], 3, -1) = 1
gettimeofday({1048813539, 184313}, NULL) = 0
gettimeofday({1048813539, 184812}, NULL) = 0
gettimeofday({1048813539, 184998}, NULL) = 0
where Mozilla calls gettimeofday 47,825 times without any other system
calls (during which time it doesn't redraw its window either.).
