Package: jabber
Version: 1.4.3-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When installing, and setting up with apt, install fails reporting:

Setting up jabber (1.4.3-2) ...
Starting jabberd: <Failed>invoke-rc.d: initscript jabber, action "start"
failed.dpkg: error processing jabber (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

also, /etc/jabber/jabber.xml is completely blank. There also seems to be
a
problem with /etc/init.d/jabber , as it fail to start jabber, reporting
/etc/init.d/jabber: line 48: check_pid: command not found

Closing this since there has been no new information and the problem
appears to have been due to removal of files provided by jabber-common.
