Package: modutils
Version: 2.4.9-1
Severity: normal
Running `depmod -a' with version 2.4.9-1 installed produces the following
problem:
-- snip --
caffeine:/root$ depmod -a
depmod: Unexpected value (20) in
'/lib/modules/2.4.10/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/sbp2.o'
for ieee1394_device_size
It is likely that the kernel structure has changed, if so then
you probably need a new version of modutils to handle this kernel.
Check linux/Documentation/Changes.
-- snip --
The sbp2.o module provides emulated scsi access to Firewire harddrives. With
modutils
2.4.8-1 installed the problem does not occur. (I have downgraded and put
modutils on
hold to circumvent the problem for the moment).
This modutils problem prevents any new package that requires `update-modules'
to be
run from properly installing (ppp in my case will not configure due to this
issue).
My kernel is a vanilla 2.4.10 with no additional patches applied. The same
problem
occurs with modutils 2.3.9-1 on the 2.4.10-xfs cvs kernel.

This package has been removed from Debian unstable. I'm therefore
closing this bug report. The package has been removed because it
has been replaced by module-init-tools. modutils was for 2.4 kernels
only. It's quite unlikely that your bug still exists in
module-init-tools, but please let me know if it does.
