Package: gimp
Version: 2.0.1-1
Severity: important
It is not possible to set any character with the Webdings font (from the
msttcorefonts package).
Characters pasted from other applications (e.g., from OpenOffice.org) appear as
a box with a unicode in the text editor, and show up as blank on the canvas.
Trying to type characters directly (which works for some dingbat fonts) results
in characters from some sans serif latin font.
In the terminal, messages like the following appear every time gimp tries to
render any character using the font:
** (gimp-2.0:24644): WARNING **: Unable to load unicode charmap from font file
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/Webdings.ttf
** (gimp-2.0:24644): WARNING **: Unable to open font file
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/Webdings.ttf for font Webdings 22, falling back to
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/a010013l.pfb
I think that if gimp2 cannot load a Unicode charmap, it should still have
some way to access the glyphs.
ftdump1 shows
ftdump1 /var/lib/defoma/fontconfig.d/W/Webdings.ttf
font name table entries
