This option is not good enough.
Hide the status bar
Uncheck this preference to force the
status bar to be displayed in popup windows.
E.g., <a href="a.htm" target="external"
onclick="window.open('b','external', 'width=800, height=700,
menubar=no, scrollbars=yes ')"> blabla</a>
Here yes the status bar is left visible, but the link manages to do
away with all other bars. There should be an option to control that
too. No more web pages monkeying with their surroundings if not
invited to! You can sit in my living room, but you are not allowed to
adjust the ceiling.
Seen on http://www.csrsr.ncu.edu.tw/chin.ver/ when clicking
http://www.csrsr.ncu.edu.tw/chin.ver/c8billboard//announce_list/view_no_login.php?serial=196
By the way when I copy and pasted the above sentence from the Help
page, a invisible correction was revealed!: ..."this optionpreference
to force"...

Closing as since firefox 2 the preferences / options screen has changed
and I don't see there the option mentioned in the bug report.
So closing as not relevant any more.
