Package: dump
Version: 0.4b27-4
Severity: important
I routinely backup my debian systems with amanda. In last two days on one
of the machines the backup failed with
| DUMP: Date of this level 1 dump: Tue Apr 1 23:06:58 2003
| DUMP: Date of last level 0 dump: Fri Mar 28 23:19:49 2003
| DUMP: Dumping /dev/sda1 (/) to standard output
| DUMP: Added inode 7 to exclude list (resize inode)
| DUMP: Label: none
| DUMP: mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
| DUMP: mapping (Pass II) [directories]
| DUMP: estimated 86 tape blocks.
| DUMP: Volume 1 started with block 1 at: Tue Apr 1 23:06:58 2003
| DUMP: dumping (Pass III) [directories]
? /dev/sda1: EXT2 directory corrupted while converting directory #32164
?
| DUMP: Broken pipe
e2fsck found no problems on sda1. I tried to google for the error message,
found info suggesting "find / -xdev -inum" to locate the mentioned inode
.. it was a directory, /home/xxx, which I added only recently, two days
ago. The directory however functioned ok, I could do ls, rm on it.
In the time of backup nothing else should be accessing it - it's an empty
and dummy samba share. (empty = no files in it, dummy = no one has rights
to get in; it's there so that the machine has one visible share)
>From google it seems there are more people with the same problem. I need
backups, so for now I've created xxx with a different inode, we'll see if
that'll work around the problem.

I was never able to reproduce this problem, and this was against a very old
version of dump. I'm going to close this bug with no further action taken,
if it crops up again I assume someone will re-open this bug or file a new one
with sufficient information to allow the bug to reproduced.
