I have a very complex file to render (a fractal in great detail),
and povray dies because he runs out of memory. I have an AMD Athlon, 1 GHz,
768 MB real memory + 512 MB swap. Even after increasing the swap to 1.5 GB,
povray died, this time he wrote "Killed" instead of "Out of memory".
Why is this a bug? Because povray 3.6.1, compiled on a Mac OS X machine as a
command-line binary (same source as this package), handles the very same file
well with a much weaker machine (G4, 400 MHz, about 350 MB real memory).
And megapov 1.2.1 performs well on my machine, rendering that complex
file without any problems.
Doesn't seem to be the package maintainer's fault, however, as I ran into
the same problem with a SuSE 10 at my university...
