Package: qemu
Version: 0.8.2-4etch1
Severity: important

Etch Qemu is half-borked as of Bug 402289.
Lenny Qemu needs plenty of new(er) libs, making it incompatible with Etch.
It would be very nice if it would be possible to painlessly install a Lenny (or
backport) Qemu deb on an Etch server.
This is a quite special case because of the nature of Etch and Qemu, so please
think
twice before a knee-jerk "policy says so" answer.
After installing libsdl-console-dev, Qemu 0.9.0 can be compiled from source on
Etch and
it can be installed, so I guess it should be possible.
Such relaxation would provide a free workaround for Bug 402289 as well.

What you want is not technically possible. The package in unstable is
built against packages from unstable. The maintainer does not choose all
the dependencies, they are choosen automatically by scripts given the
libraries which have been used at build time.

All the build-dependencies of the unstable version are available in
Etch. If you want a version installable in etch, build it on etch.

Invalid bug report, closing it.
