Package: xchat
Version: 2.6.8-0.2
Severity: normal
Tags: security
On an amd64 machine, the following command (or any other that
generates a big one-line output) gives an X error that makes XChat
abort:
/py exec range(1,1000)
The program 'xchat' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
(Details: serial 36821 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
If the same happens when the server sends _us_ a big message (which I
was unable to trick irc.debian.org to do), then this is a remote DOS
problem.
It is not reproducible on a i386 machine.

I do have an amd64 now :) and the problem seems solved in version
2.8.4-1. Anyone, feel free to reopen and explain why.
