Package: vim
Version: 1:6.2-098+4
Severity: normal
I have $GTK_IM_MODULE=xim in my environment, because I use a customized
Xlib compose sequence file for entering Lithuanian letters by using a
dead key.
Alt modifier is ignored completely in vim 6.2 Gtk2 GUI. In previous
versions of vim (6.0), hitting Alt+letter where a letter was a menu
shortcut would open that menu item, the rest of them would insert that
letter with the high bit set. In current version Alt always inserts
that letter without any bit twiddlings or menu shortcuts, and any
mappings for <A-letter> are ignored.
I do have 'winaltkeys' set to 'menu', changing it does not seem to have
any effect. (Actually, it does: menu shortcuts are underlined when
winaltkeys is set to 'yes' or 'menu', and not underlined when it it set
to 'no', but in all cases actually hitting the Alt key has no effect.)
The Alt key works as expected with GTK_IM_MODULE set to an empty string
(but then Gtk uses its own compose sequences and I can no longer type
text in my native tongue).
