Package: python-central
Version: 0.5.12
Severity: normal

Python central attempts to write to /usr at runtime; this is
unacceptable. Furthermore, it results in numerous .pyc files in
/usr/share which do not appear in the dpkg database (dpkg -L
packagename) for any package -- they are orphans.

These files need to be moved to /var/cache; perhaps something like
/var/cache/python-central.

This report is already marked as wontfix. The claim:

Python central attempts to write to /usr at runtime; this is
  unacceptable.

is wrong. The modifying pycentral operations are only called on
package installation and removal, when /usr is written anyway.

The proposal

These files need to be moved to /var/cache; perhaps something like
  /var/cache/python-central.

is counter-productive. This way you have code in /var which cannot be
protected by mounting /usr read only.

Closing now.
