--- Begin Message ---Subject: alsa-base: Newest alsa incorrectly lists sound hardware Package: alsa-base Version: 1.0.16-1 Severity: important *** Please type your report below this line *** I recently reinstalled Lenny because the system started to show cracks of all my tweaking =) . I did a reinstallation through preseed (logs and files can be send at request) and everything seems to work fine. After the installation, everything works except for sound. I figured out it has to do with how the cards are listed in which order. By default, every program grabs card 0 (-c 0). However, do to a bug (?) my MIDI card is listed as first soundcard (which is quite stupid if you ask me...). Every program now tries to play sound through my MIDI (he doesn't like that). Every program failes. For example: alsamixer No mixer elems found BUT: alsamixer -c 1 <shows expected output :) > The second card is the soundcard which can play normal sound. So it seems that alsa incorrectly lists the sound hardware in my computer. (NOTE: Sound worked out of the box before!). And no, I did *not* mess with the alsa configuration :) -- Package-specific info: --- Begin additional package status --- Gewenst=(U)Onbekend/Installeren/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Niet/geInstalleerd/Config/Uitgepakt/(F)config-mislukt/Half-geinst |/ Fout?=(geen)/Hold/Reinst nodig/X=beide (Status,Fout: hoofdlett=ernstig) ||/ Naam Versie Omschrijving +++-=========================-=========================-================================================================== ii libasound2 1.0.16-2 ALSA library --- End additional package status --- --- Begin /proc/asound/version --- Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.15 (Tue Nov 20 19:16:42 2007 UTC). --- End /proc/asound/version --- --- Begin /proc/asound/cards --- 0 [port ]: MTPAV - MTPAV on parallel port MTPAV on parallel port at 0x378 1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia HDA NVidia at 0xb0000000 irq 20 --- End /proc/asound/cards --- --- Begin /dev/snd/ listing --- totaal 0 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 0 apr 13 12:37 controlC0 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 32 apr 13 12:37 controlC1 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 8 apr 13 12:37 midiC0D0 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 56 apr 13 12:37 pcmC1D0c crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 48 apr 13 12:37 pcmC1D0p crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 49 apr 13 12:37 pcmC1D1p crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 1 apr 13 12:37 seq crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 33 apr 13 12:37 timer --- End /dev/snd/ listing --- -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24 Locale: LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=nl_NL.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages alsa-base depends on: ii linux-sound-base 1.0.16-1 base package for ALSA and OSS soun ii lsof 4.78.dfsg.1-4 List open files ii module-init-tools 3.3-pre11-4 tools for managing Linux kernel mo Versions of packages alsa-base recommends: ii alsa-utils 1.0.16-1 ALSA utilities Versions of packages libasound2 depends on: ii libc6 2.7-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries -- no debconf information
