Package: termcap-compat
Version: 1.2.3
Severity: normal
Because termcap-compat is compiled against libc5, it causes conflict problems
when trying to install any Netscape/Iplanet server software (eg, Iplanet
Enterprise Server 4.1). When the "setup" program that comes with this software
is run, a segmentation fault results, and the software will not install.
rosso /home/paul/iplanet/linux $ ldd ./setup
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x40018000)
libresolv.so.2 => /lib/libresolv.so.2 (0x4002b000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x4003a000)
libncurses.so.4 => /lib/libncurses.so.4 (0x4003e000)
libtermcap.so.2 => /lib/libtermcap.so.2 (0x4007e000)
libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 => /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2

libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x400c4000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x400e1000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)
libc.so.5 => /lib/libc.so.5 (0x401be000)
As you can see from the above, it is trying to use both libc6 and libc5.
When I removed termcap-compat and then recompiled it against libc6, the
Netscape/Iplanet server installs and runs correctly.
NOTE: This problem affects potato also. It may affect slink, too, but I have
not verified this.
